Problem:
Many people believe that the election of the first African-American as President catapulted the US into a post-racial society, but unfortunately that couldn’t be further from the truth.

Deep racial disparities continue to exist in most aspects of our lives to this day. And, despite the fact that President Obama is an African American and considered a Progressive, he has put forth numerous policies that continue to perpetuate structural racism.

Raids and deportations have increased exponentially under this administration. The President has proposed eliminating Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac from the secondary housing market, which would make it even harder for people of color to obtain home loans. He has crafted two stimulus packages that were not targeted to those hurt most by the crumbling economy. And finally this administration has sat silent while states across the country have passed laws that will disenfranchise millions of people of color.
Solution:
The NPA Network has launched a bold initiative called the Dismantling Structural Racism Project.

This project seeks to challenge the system of structural racism in a way that hasn’t been done since the Civil Rights Movement. As part of the project, NPA will be providing political education to its affiliates and close allies around structural racism.

Providing political education and training is only part of our strategy. NPA will also work hand-in-hand with affiliates in several states to develop statewide organizing campaigns that have positive racial impacts and eliminate racial disparities.
